Today, as the She Inspires Award 2024 trophy arrived at my office, I found myself reflecting on what this recognition truly means. Being named the winner under the Rising Star category is an honour, but it’s also a reminder of the work we still need to do. This isn’t just a personal milestone—it’s an opportunity to shine a light on the transformative power of fostering and the urgent need for more foster carers.

As the Director of Silver Lining Fostering, an Ofsted Outstanding fostering agency, I see every day how fostering changes lives. This award is a reflection of the incredible dedication of our foster carers, staff, and the children we serve. But it also represents the many challenges that remain and my renewed commitment to addressing them.

A Moment to Reflect

Receiving this award has been humbling. It has brought back memories of the journey—both personal and professional—that led me here. Founding Silver Lining Fostering in 2018 was a leap of faith during a challenging time in my life. There were moments when the road seemed uncertain, but the drive to make a difference kept me moving forward.

Over the years, Silver Lining Fostering has grown into an agency that prioritises the wellbeing of children while empowering foster carers with the tools and support they need. Our Ofsted Outstanding rating stands as a testament to our commitment to providing the highest standards of care, but it’s the stories of resilience and transformation from our foster carers and children that truly define our success.

Seeing the She Inspires trophy today was a powerful reminder of why fostering is so important. Each child deserves a loving, stable home—a place where they can heal, grow, and thrive. Yet, across the UK, thousands of children are still waiting for that chance.

Winning this award has strengthened my resolve to recruit more foster carers who can make that difference. Fostering is not just about offering a home; it’s about offering hope.
